The Samsung Galaxy S7, one of the most anticipated devices of the year so far is now available in stores in Uganda. Samsung Uganda officially unveiled their new flagship device as well as the “revolutionary edge version” the S7 Edge this morning in partnership with Knight Frank.
Speaking at the launch today, Amos Mulago, Samsung’s Country Manager said, “We are very excited to launch this phone on the Ugandan market because it is truly an exceptional device in terms of its design, functionality and cutting edge features”.
Mr Mulago went on to mention some highlights including the Snapdragon 820 processor, 30% more battery life than previous version and wireless charging.
Amos was challenged to dip his own S7 in water, and I volunteered a bottle of water which we emptied trying to drown the phone. Fortunately it was fine, and was still working fine by the time we left.
The other attraction of the launch event was the Samsung VR gear into which you can plug your phone and get a 360° view of either games or movies. The VR Gear is compatible with all high end Galaxy phones starting from the Note 4 and is expected to cost about $150.
For the first 100 buyers of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, the VR will be thrown in free of charge.
Edwin Abaasa, Product & Training Manager Uganda said his personal favourite feature of the Samsung Galaxy S7 is the “inbuilt air conditioner”.
“I’m sure many of you have had the misfortune of having a device overheat as you use it, as many devices are prone to heating up. However that problem is in the past now with the Samsung Galaxy S7 which has an inbuilt air conditioner that keeps the phone cool as you use it,” he said.
Knight Frank, the property managers of Acacia Mall announced a 10 day Easter Promo which will see 2 lucky winners walk away with a free Samsung Galaxy S7 and Gear.
Paul Mwirigi, Head of Marketing at Knight Frank said, “We’re very excited and proud to be the mall of choice for this historic launch. Samsung is an internationally recognized brand with global appeal, it is therefore a natural fit for Acacia Mall which is Kampala’s leading lifestyle and shopping destination”.
To participate in the promo, you get a raffle ticket for every UGX 70,000 you spend in the mall. There will be daily “lucky dips” and then a raffle draw on Easter Monday when the winners will be picked.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 is also available for purchase at the Samsung exhibition at Acacia Mall, premium MTN and Airtel outlets and a few other select dealers. Very soon it will however be in stock in most shops that usually sell Samsung devices.
We shall get our own copy of the device and write a review in due course. However at first glance, the S7 does live up to the hype, and its a device that I’m looking forward to spending time with.
